While everyone is arguing whether or not Obama Care is unconstitutional or not, it appears that a new law regulating the light bulbs we buy completely slipped everyone’s minds. Since when is the United States government allowed to make mandatory the type of light bulbs someone buys? Rather than making it mandatory what kind of lightbulb one buys, they could have easily just made a ruling on which type of light bulbs a company may manufacture, or sell.
Nevertheless, the whole rationale behind the reason to buy these new light bulbs doesn’t make any sense to me. If people wanted to save money on their energy bill, they have the choice to buy the light bulbs which save energy, or not. Maybe the new light bulbs bother my eyes, maybe I like them better, and if I’m paying for the energy, I should be allowed to the use them and the government shouldn’t be allowed to tell me which type of lightbulbs to buy or to replace my perfectly good lightbulbs, I have in my cupboard in “central supply” – see that point?
Worse, many people don’t realize this but all these new lightbulbs that we are to buy by mandate from the government are not even made in the United States, they are made in China. In other words, by making this law we are helping China’s labor force, and not our own. In fact, the last regular light bulb manufacturing facility recently closed in Virginia laying-off all the people there, I bet you they weren’t too happy, they just got mandated out of a job.
In fact, as I understand it all this alternative energy jazz was supposed to provide new jobs for Americans, but apparently we are providing more jobs for the Chinese, and I’m not really sure how that helps our economy, trade flows, or trade deficit. And I’m not so sure what good it is to have a government telling us what we can and cannot buy or that we have to buy a certain type of lightbulb, or we have to buy health insurance.
That’s just not government’s job, it never has been, and quite frankly it’s unconstitutional. Still, even if it were unconstitutional, it’s just wrong to mandate that Americans have to buy something made in another country. If this is the best our leadership can do, it’s not good enough, and it’s time to vote them all out of office and send them packing. This is the United States of America and if we are going to make laws and mandate such things, and those supplies, products, or services ought to be made in America.
And like I said, I’m not for mandating the mandatory purchase of anything by anyone in the United States of America anyhow. It’s just that I see a double wrong here, and someone needs to make this right. Please consider all this.
